This post isn’t about much, but I just wanted to share that we are officially beginning another school year – a 1st grader & a Preschooler! I will be blogging about it throughout the year and I can’t wait!

One of my favorite things to do is to find a cute “First Day of School” print out and get a first day of school photo of my kid(s) holding it. <3 I missed out on getting a middle of the year “school photo” last year and a “Last Day of School photo” which I am TOTALLY sad about but I will have it as one of my priorities through the rest of the years! So my tip to you is, plan these things ahead of time! Have a list of the things you want to make sure and do, with a date you want to do them. There are so many fun things to do throughout the year, to be able to have as a “keepsake”. Projects at the same time each year, photos, etc. I LOVE photos and I love seeing how my boys change through the years.

Here is a little sneak peek at our first day!

I absolutely love these free, colorful “First Day of School” printouts! I did this last year with my 6 year old and it is something I will do on the fist day of school! HERE is where I got them! I just printed them out, filled them in, and tacked them onto a piece of construction paper, each in their favorite color. 🙂boysschool2

Aiden (6 1/2 years old) & Jaxon (3 1/2 years old) ready to start school

I have a white board in our school room that I decorated to “Welcome” Aiden to his first day! Through the whole summer he has been talking non-stop about going into the 1st grade — I really wanted to make it an extra special day for him! Boy, did his face light up when he walked into the school room Monday morning to see this! He knew he was OFFICIALLY a 1st grader! And I am OFFICIALLY in tears because I am pretty sure he was just born last month. #wheretheheckdoesthetimego #growingtoofast

Here is a little peak into our school room. We have it set up just for our 6 1/2 year old right now but will be incorporating some things for our 3 1/2 year old after the first of the year. I made sure to snap a photo early that morning before we came in and began school lessons; the air was filled with Peppermint and Tangerine essential oils in his Orb diffuser on his desk. I MAY or MAY NOT have sat in the middle of the room, taking that moment in. Thinking to myself, how blessed I am. I get to stay home and teach my boys. Thinking about all of the fun things we have in the future. Although it is set up all nice and neat, we really don’t spend too much time with him just sitting and doing work. He is such a hands-on learner, we do a lot of hands-on things. We LOVE the concept of “unschooling” and actually really focus on that for both of the boys. Especially our younger one.

As with most 3 1/2 year olds out there, he doesn’t sit still for too long. Especially if you are trying “teach” him something. But if we have some learning that we camouflage with making it into a super fun activity. i.e He loves to help me cook, so when we crack eggs, we work on his counting as he cracks each one. When we pick up blocks or Legos, we name each color as we put it in the box. We did this with my older boy (when he was younger) and now with my 3 1/2 year old and have found that they learn so much easier when doing things like this!

I am really looking forward to this year! I feel like last year was a bit of a test run, since it was our first year. But this year, I know what I want to do differently.

Are you a homeschooler? I would LOVE to hear from you about how your begin your school year, see a snap shot of where you do your school lessons, etc.
